Charter amendments result of work and collaboration

Charter amendments result of work and collaboration

Have you ever been really excited to vote for something? I mean, as in you eagerly await the opportunity to fill in the box next to someone or something on your ballot in November?

When we devote our energy and time to a cause or a candidate and feel that an election win will make a positive difference for your future, I think that’s when you feel that anticipation and excitement.

That’s how I feel about this year’s Maui County Charter Amendments — I can’t wait!

For some in the county, these amendments are unexpected, but for many of us, we have been waiting and working for years to see these up for vote.

For all of us, we recognize that our county can and should run more efficiently, ethically, and effectively, and that our county workers deserve a higher level of productivity and professionalism.

These amendments to the county’s charter aim to do just that. I am especially excited to vote for the improvement to the county managing director position, for the real term limits for council members and the mayor, and for the council to choose 9 of the 11 charter commission members. And yes, I am excited for the other amendments as well. I’ll bevoting yes on all seven.

These are thoughtful and timely amendments formed through years ofwork and collaboration, and we need to support our leaders and bringthem into law. Please join me and vote yes for all seven Maui CountyCharter Amendments on our ballot next month!
